Bronze buckle discovered in Alaskan house poses many unfathomable questions

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The discovery was made at a house dug into the side of a beach ridge by Inupiat Eskimos around a thousand years ago. Located on the Seward Peninsula, the northwestern part of Alaska once formed the American half of the Bering Land Bridge linking the continent with Asia.

Whoever made the buckle had knowledge of metallurgy, as there is evidence it was made from a mold. That means there's almost zero chance that the artifact originated in the Seward Peninsula, or anywhere near the area where it was found. There has been no evidence ever brought forth of prehistoric metalworking north of Mexico.

A leather strap found near the buckle was older still. University of Colorado archaeologists were able to radiocarbon date it to about 600 C.E. The buckle might be far older than the strap around it.
