Three recent articles in major national magazines touted Olive Branch as the fastest growing city in the United States. DeSoto County was ranked as high as seventh in job creation, and Hernando cracked the nations Top 100 Best Places To Live, coming in at 79th. An April 2011 article in Bloomberg BusinessWeek stated that the population of Olive Branch has exploded by 838 percent in the last two decades. From a 1990 population of 3,567, Olive Branch now boasts a population of over 33,848. Industry growth and job creation, number of new households, length of residency and average household incomes were cited as important factors in determining this ranking. Not to be overlooked is the low crime rate, affordable housing, small town atmosphere and a highly ranked school system.
