Columbus State (14-9, 9-5) got off to a quick starting building an 18-8 lead after the first six minutes of action. During that time, CSU shot 70 percent (7-for-10) including hitting 4-of-6 three-point attempts. Marina DeFoor started the game with five points which included one three-pointer while Shan Basley made back-to-back trifectas to give the Lady Cougars a 10-point lead.
CSU stretched their lead to 12, their largest advantage of the first half, on a Gilbert jump shot.
Montevallo (9-14, 4-10) crawled their way back into the game thanks to six Lady Cougar turnovers in a three minute and 26 second period that allowed the Falcons to get within six, 30-24, with 1:08 left in the opening half.
The Lady Cougars made their last two shots of the period to take a 34-24 lead into halftime.
Asha Alexander and Basley combined to score the first eight Lady Cougar points of the second half while Carrie Washington laid in a bucket to extend CSU's lead to 44-32 with 16:39 remaining in the game.
