How long does it take to get from white belt to black belt?

Question: How long does it usually take to get from white belt to black belt?

I'm trying to get a measuring stick to compare my rate with what is normal. If you could list your source too, that would be great.

I'm studying jujitsu.

Answer: If you're referring to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu it will take anywhere from 8-15 years depending on your dedication and your instructor. 8 years would be extremely quick, and the average is over 10 years. You also must be at least 19 years old to obtain a bjj black belt.

It could take about 3 years (as it did for BJ Penn), or 10 years.

There is really no way to know, it depends on your dedication, hard work, ability to learn the technique and so on.

White Mountains' Ti Daly, Chad Masters represent state at US Martial Arts Games

On December 16-17 the best martial artists from around the United States converged on the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando, Fla. for the 2011 U.S. Martial Arts Games. Chad Masters of Show Low, a third degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do, and Ti Daly of Lakeside, a first degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, represented Team Arizona at the tournament.

Masters, one of the head instructors of Dynamic Impact Martial Arts in Show Low, brought home a gold medal for speed breaking and traditional weapon forms, and a silver in traditional open hand forms.

Ti Daly brought home gold medals in free style sparring, point sparring, continuous sparring, open hand forms and a silver in weapon forms, for a total Team Arizona medal count of six gold medals and two silver medals.

Due to unfortunate circumstances the members that made the team from the Phoenix area were unable to attend so Masters and Daly were the only members able to attend the tournament. Masters said there were more than 100 competitors in Orlando.
